Healthcare and Your Pet

Caring for your pet is a joint responsibility between your family and the Veterinarians at the Centre Street Animal Hospital. Prevention and Education are the keys to successfully managing your pet’s healthcare and we pride ourselves on the way we keep you fully informed of your pet’s health needs. We believe that if you know what to look for and expect, you can bring your loved one in and get the treatment that is needed before a larger scale intervention is required. Reactive medicine works, especially when there is an emergency or a sudden illness, but our goal is to avoid the stress and complications that come with it. Everybody wants their pet to be happy and healthy for a long, long time.

To help with this process, we have a growing collection of articles and information sheets which will be posted on our Website that will help you to determine if you need to give us a call. General information related to a wide variety of pet healthcare issues, medical conditions and best practices will be found there. Our goal is to provide you with answers to some of the more common questions that we get asked in the hospital, and to help you decide what your next steps are going to be. To begin your “Vet Training”, start by clicking on the drop down menu above, or select one of the options in the list below.

Naturally, your specific situation, needs and questions won’t always fit the mold, so please feel free to contact us to clarify any questions that you have about the articles. We are all on the same team- your pet’s healthcare team- and you need to be one of the professionals too!

Veterinary Services and Solutions

The Services offered at the Centre Street Animal Hospital are many and varied. In our ongoing efforts to meet your needs and the needs of our patients, we are constantly training our team, updating our equipment and reviewing our processes and procedures to find better ways of serving you. The list below outlines some of the more general Veterinary Medicine service that we provide:

Laser Therapy

The benefits of laser therapy are relatively new in the veterinary industry.  Despite this, customers are quick to adopt the technology as they see a marked improvement in the health of their pets, quickly and free of side-effects. MLS Therapy is a new therapy for treating pain, inflammation, and edema and for repairing superficial lesions.  It was developed to overcome the limits of traditional Laser therapy. Continuous Laser emissions act fast on inflammation, stimulating blood and lymphatic circulation and inducing fast re-absorption of fluid build-ups. Click here for more information on our Laser Therapy.

Laser Surgery

Whenever possible, our veterinarians utilize our state-of-the-art laser surgery unit to perform necessary surgeries. We have been using laser exclusively for soft tissue surgery for many years now and the benefits over more conventional methods include the obvious, like the reduction of bleeding, the increase in accuracy and precision and quicker recovery times, but also includes less well known advantages as well. Lasers greatly reduce the risk of post operative infections, reduce swelling and cause less pain in our patient. Laser Surgery is utilized for Spays, Neuters, Lump Removals, and more and is rapidly replacing conventional surgery for procedures that involve growth or lump removal as well. The veterinary surgeons at Centre Street Animal Hospital in Thornhill are all practitioners of laser surgery. Click here for more information on our Laser Surgery.

On-Premise Radiology

Speedy X-Rays can mean the difference between life and death for an injured or sick pet. To ensure that we are able to meet all your needs and in an effort to offer the highest level of healthcare, the hospital has its own digital radiology on the premise. In an emergency, X-rays can be conjured up at a moments notice, providing our staff the detailed information they need to make a proper diagnosis and to plan the corrective steps that are needed to help make your pet happy and healthy again. We have both routine and dental X-ray units to ensure we are able to get the best information in the shortest period of time to begin treating each individual medical or surgical case as they arise.

Pet Dentistry

Good dental health is also one of the essentials in pet medicine. Strong teeth and healthy gums work hand in hand with proper nutrition to help your pet lead a long and healthy life. Our dental suite is fully equipped with an ultrasonic cleaner, manual scalers, a high speed drill, and dental x-ray equipment. We can perform both routine and advanced dental procedures including root canals and orthodontics if needed. Click here for more information on Dental Healthcare for you pet.

Pet Food and Proper Nutrition

Proper diet is one of the most crucial elements in preventative medicine. The right food, at the right time, in the right amounts can make or break your loved one’s  over all well being. As part of a regular examination, our Veterinarians can perform a dietary assessment for you pet, and propose a nutritional and dietary regime that will promote your pet’s health and happiness. For your convenience, and if your pet’s situation warrants it, we can save you a trip to the store as well. We keep a select stock of Top Medical Quality pet foods and supplements in the hospital. The selection of pet foods we offer comes from a broad range of therapeutic and maintenance diet pet food. Our team is always on hand to offer their professional opinions and advice for educating you and for boosting your pet’s health. Click here for more information on Pet Food, Nutrition and Proper Diet.
