Dr. Martin Slome, DVM | Lead Veterinarian - Owner

Dr.Slome_web2Dr. Martin Slome graduated from Veterinary School in Pretoria, South Africa in June 1990 and gained his first veterinary experience working in South Africa where he ran the Police Veterinary section in Durban as a veterinary medical officer as part of his mandatory military service.

Following his national service he was the manager and Veterinarian-in-Charge of 2 veterinary Hospitals for the next 4 years, having worked at each hospital for 2 years before immigrating to North America in February 1995.

From there, Dr. Slome traveled to Florida and spent over a year working in a clinic and a veterinary dental specialty practice before moving to Toronto in March 1996, where he was employed at an animal hospital in the Bloor West Village.

A year later he opened the Centre Street Animal Hospital and has never looked back. Dr Slome is fortunate enough to have a family of animal lovers since his wife, Michelle, and their 2 boys, Ethan and Adam, all fuss over their pets, Princess, an 18 year old Siamese and Toffee, a mixed-breed rescue puppy.

Roy Philippsohn | Registered Veterinary Technician

Roy started working for Centre Street Animal Hospital in the summer of 2005. He graduated from the veterinary technician program at Seneca College in 2005 with honors.

He has had a passion for working with animals of all sizes for a long time, from cows and horses to snakes and lovebirds. He works in the veterinary emergency field as well, where the fast pace keeps him on his toes for new advancements in animal medicine.

Roy counts Corn Snakes and a variety of Rodents amongst his menagerie (The rodents aren’t too happy about this though!).

Danya Lipson | Registered Veterinary Technician

We first met Danya when she came to Centre Street Animal Hospital at 11 years old as a client with her very first kitten!

Over the years her relationship with the hospital has grown stronger as she has opened her heart to other furry companions. Danya and her family are currently the proud owners of two senior cats (17 and 20 years old) and this love of animals is what took Danya to the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College.

We were thrilled to see her come full circle in the summer of 2011 as she graduated from school and joined us as an employee! On top of cuddling with her wonderful cats, Danya also enjoys tap dancing, baking and was recently married!

Jacqueline: Client Care Specialist

Joining the clinic in 2018, Jacqueline has enjoyed working with various animals- from manatees to apes- around the world. She’s excited to be a part of this close-knit team and for the experience of working in the veterinary field. With a degree in International Development, Jacqueline has had the opportunity to work with non-profits internationally and has developed a passion for travelling. When she’s not abroad Jacqueline spends her time searching for the best ice cream in the city and hanging out with her kitty Baylee.

Samantha: Client Care Specialist

Samantha has been working in the veterinary industry since 2001. Prior to joining Centre Street Animal Hospital, she functioned as a receptionist, veterinary assistant and even practice manager at a veterinary clinic in Trinidad and Tobago. Although her recent move to Canada has forced her to leave her two dogs Josey and Belle with relatives, she has “adopted” every pet patient that visits us at CSAH as her own.

Amanda: Veterinary Assistant

After graduating from Sheridan College’s Animal Care program, Amanda joined the team at Centre Street Animal Hospital in Spring of 2018. In 2007 Amanda started her own business ‘Doggy Day Care’, geared at walking, feeding, boarding (and of course giving lots of love to) dogs. Clients lauded her passion and responsibility and as such her business grew rapidly by word of mouth. This is when Amanda resolved that her future would always involve working with animals. Amanda enjoys the hands-on aspect of working with our cherished pets and takes great pride in the ability to help with their care and keep them comfortable and happy!
