The Services offered at the Centre Street Animal Hospital are many and varied. In our ongoing efforts to meet your needs and the needs of our patients, we are constantly training our staff, updating our equipment and reviewing our processes and procedures to find better ways of serving you. The list below outlines some of the more general Veterinary Medicine services that we provide:
Whenever possible, our Veterinarians utilize our state of the art laser surgery suite to perform necessary surgery. We have been using laser exclusively for soft tissue surgery for many years now and the benefits over more conventional methods include the obvious like the reduction of bleeding, the increase in accuracy and precision and quicker recovery times, but also include less well known advantages as well. Lasers greatly reduce the risk of post operative infections, reduce swelling and cause less pain in our patients. Laser Surgery is exclusively utilized for Spays, Neutering and De-Clawing and is rapidly replacing conventional surgery for procedures that involve growth or lump removal as well. Laser surgery is faster to conduct, often leading to unexpectedly lower costs to perform, and reduces the amount of post operative complications that are more commonly associated with regular surgery. The Veterinary Surgeons at the Centre Street Animal Hospital in Thornhill are all practitioners of laser surgery.
Speedy X-Rays can mean the difference between life or death for an injured or sick pet. To ensure that we are able to meet all your needs and in an effort to offer the highest level of healthcare, the hospital has it’s own Radiology suite on the premises. In an emergency, x-rays can be conjured up at a moments’ notice providing our staff the detailed information they need to make a proper diagnosis and to plan the corrective steps that are needed to help make your pet happy and healthy again. We have both routine and dental x-ray units to ensure we are able to get the best information in the shortest period of time in order to begin treating each individual medical or surgical case as they arise.
The Boarding facility at the Centre Street Animal Hospital is one of the largest in Thornhill. Our Kennels have separate accommodations for dogs and cats in addition to being managed by experienced and dedicated staff that ensure that all animals receive the proper care they deserve whilst in our care. Walks three times a day, oversized runs and of course caregivers to ensure that medication is taken and that everybody gets along together are all benefits of boarding your pet with us. Blood tests are a significant part of veterinary medicine. In terms of detection and diagnoses a timely blood test or analysis can provide essential clarification to a Vet and ensure that the correct remedy to a situation is acted upon. In an effort to speed this process and to cut down on the number of visits and the costs associated with them, the clinic has it’s own blood lab, on the premises. Whether the blood chemistry is needed for an emergency, a routine exam or as a pre-operative procedure, our blood lab is ready and available.
Proper diet is one of the most crucial elements in preventative medicine. The right food, at the right time, in the right amounts can make or break your loved one’s over all well being. As a part of a regular examination, our Veterinarians can perform a dietary assessment for your pet, and propose a nutritional and dietary regime that will promote your pet’s health and happiness. For your convenience, and if your pet’s situation warrants it, we can save you a trip to the store as well- we keep a select stock of top medical quality pet foods and supplements in the office. The selection of pet foods we offer comes from a broad range of therapeutic and maintenance diet pet foods. Our staff is always on hand to offer their professional opinions and advice for educating you and for boosting your pet’s health. Click here more information on Pet Food, Nutrition and proper Diet.
Good dental health is also one of the essentials in pet medicine. Strong teeth and healthy gums work hand in hand with proper nutrition to help your pet lead a long and healthy life. Our dental suite is fully equipped with ultrasonic cleaner, manual scalers, a high speed drill, and dental x-ray equipment for dental scaling. We can perform both routine and advanced dental procedures including root canals and orthodontics if needed. Click here for more information on dental healthcare for your pet.
Small, Exotic and Pocket Pet medicine has always been available, but with the recent addition to our team of Dr Hansford in May 2008, we feel confident in saying that we are one of the premier facilities in Thornhill for small animal care especially with the addition of new equipment for small exotics including an exotic digital scale and an incubator with an humidifier should a critical case need hospitalization. Whether you have a small pet (like a bird, cat or a lap dog) a pocket pet like hamsters, gerbils, fancy mice, fancy rats, chinchillas, and guinea pigs, or an exotic pet (amphibians, reptile etc…) we are ready and eager to see you and your pet. Give us a call and ask us about your “special” family member.
